According to the CBN guidelines on Dormant Accounts and Unclaimed Funds issued on July 19, 2024, eligible dormant accounts are those that have remained with the Bank for ten (10) years or more. This includes current, savings, term deposits in local currency, domiciliary accounts, shares and mutual investments, prepaid card accounts, wallets, and government-owned accounts.
PROCEDURES TO RECLAIM DORMANT ACCOUNTS AND UNCLAIMED BALANCES
Here are the procedures to reclaim unclaimed balances from dormant accounts inactive for over 10 years:
i. The account owners/beneficial owners can access the list of unclaimed balances transferred to CBN on our website, the CBN website and/or newspaper publications.
ii. The account owner/beneficial owner shall visit our office and complete an ‘Account Reactivation Form’.
iii. The account owner/beneficial owner shall provide evidence of account ownership, valid means of identification, evidence of present place of residence, and affidavit on the accuracy of the information to reactivate the account.

You may escalate to the Consumer Protection Department, CBN when a complaint is not resolved within three (3) working days.
